After 4 four months working with all the Year 5 children in 22 primary schools we finally appointed our Ambassadors for Power of Women.
Each school had a half day session looking at the issues around gender and diversity in general; the smallest class had 12 pupils, the largest over 80! We explored what the problems currently are and how society could make things more equal. This was set in the context of the children’s perceptions of their own skills, knowledge and agency. Through interactive activities we mapped out their possible routes through life and showed them the possibilities that lie on their doorstep. From each school we got lots of applications to take on the Ambassador roles. We always appoint both boys and girls to be Ambassadors; it takes all of society to make change. The children went through an interview process, often with the support of our brilliant PoW volunteers and we now have everyone appointed. You can see from the pictures below how delighted (relieved?) the successful Ambassadors were just minutes after being told that they had the role.
We now look forward to the next 7 months with development days, a graduation and multiple visits into some of our fab local businesses so that the Ambassadors can develop as leaders in their own schools to make lasting change.
We cannot wait to work with them some more!
