Welcome to 15 primary schools in the Tees Valley taking part in Tees Pioneers.
Working through an adapted Business Canvas, Y5s work in teams to develop realistic business ideas linked to the River. Each school then votes and selects their best team. Those 15 teams will be presenting to industry leaders at the Port of Middlesbrough in early July.
What has stood out so far is that given the right structure, the right questions to address, the children’s ideas are just as well thought out as many I’ve heard in business support workshops over the years 😎 Their MVPs are plausible and low cost.
They are applying skills and knowledge that they have learned through their formal curriculum (and personally) into a ‘real’ context. Their lived experience, the place where they live, the context of their lives all combine through the structured workshop to produce realistic, well thought out business ideas that could work in our local area.
Thanks as always to Tees Maritime for helping develop and support these brilliant opportunities for thousands of young people to have their voices heard and develop their sense of agency 👍
Some pics from some of the schools we have had the pleasure of visiting so far. There is even one girl pictured below who already has her own craft business selling items at craft fairs she has crocheted. Do not under estimate our primary age children!
