Spark Content
Spark creates short videos that show how the skills and knowledge you learn in class relate to a real job in the real world. We have everything that you learn in primary school connected to real jobs. Below are some examples of people who use the skills and knowledge that you will need to make your game brilliant:
Games Designer
Visual artist in film
Animator
For teachers:
The resources have been set up to ensure that this can be a largely independent project which the children work through at their own pace. Headphones are recommended where possible! Alternatively you can use it as a whole class teaching tool taking everyone through each video together….but that is not the most effective way of doing it. They can use any internet enabled device although it is advisable to create accounts on Scratch so that their work is automatically saved after every new input.
Working with younger learners?
Scratch Jnr is a brilliant way to create an animated story using the children’s own drawings. How did Santa lose his presents? How can he get them back? Full tutorial for using Scratch Jnr: HERE
Safety
Scratch accounts are necessarily anonymised and even is the children publish their work to share, they can turn all comments (any form of interaction) off. The only thing to be mindful of is children using images of themselves in their work. This can be mitigated by children using the draw tools to disguise themselves, creating avatars or simply drawing them selves and uploading.
Showcase
And if any of you want to show off your children’s work please feel free to send us pics, vids or links to the games (if you publish them). Feedback from these type of projects demonstrates time and again that having their work shown to a real audience on an external website has a huge impact on self confidence, engagement and output.
In a word: agency
