What an incredible day at AV Dawson where we welcomed the inquisitive young minds from Normanby Primary School to the latest ‘World of Work Day’ funded by TVCA. With the perfect vantage point on the top floor, seeing all the Tees Valley laid out before them, the Year 5 children used our interactive company map to learn all about the amazing businesses and new developments all around them.

The thread behind the day is centred around developing cultural capital which in turn develops a greater sense of agency, purpose and confidence. These children today clearly grasped the idea! Inspired by the opportunities on their doorstep, they talked avidly about what they could do with their futures and understood that if they exercise the ability to stop, pay attention to the world around them they could have a greater sense of responsibility and influence over the path their life takes.

The children today showed brilliant commitment and enthusiasm to every task thrown at them, especially coding Dash robots to explore the map. We even had a special visitor! Lily Brothwood from Intelect – an electrical and mechanical engineering company – popped down and talked with her usual aplomb about her role within the company and how all her life experiences shaped the person she is today (especially her musical theatre days)!

Brilliant children, brilliant staff, I expect nothing less though from NPS!
