You all watch the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures on BBC4 every year don’t you?
One of the initiatives that they have run for several years are masterclasses for secondary. I previously ran a very successful series of events supported by local engineering companies. One of the pupils who attended even ended up working as an apprentice engineer for one of the companies he met on one of the sessions!

Now, due to popular demand (and me nagging a bit!) they have licensed a programme of events for primary schools:

  • 6 week programme
  • Y5 focus
  • No cost
  • 4 pupils from 8 schools
  • Industry and University role models supporting sessions
  • Celebration event providing Certificates of Completion for all children presented by RI staff

This Summer we will be running two programmes.

In Redcar we will be running on a Thursday afternoon at the Hudson Wing in Newcomen Primary school.
In Middlesbrough we will be running on a Wednesday afternoon at Teesside University.
All schools in the Tees Valley are eligible to attend.

Sessions will begin at 1pm (prompt!) and end at 3pm. Dates are being confirmed but will probably begin after the Summer half term.

Each session will focus on a different aspect of engineering and will include maths, problem solving, creativity and effective teamwork across a variety of tasks. All we ask is that you commit to bringing the children each week. Sessions will be led or supported by local engineers and ambassadors from Teesside University who are studying engineering.

Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis so email me to reserve your place:
