Find out how to get their job!

In Summary:

Meet Roy, whose job is to look after customers and find new work for the port. He is called the General Manager Business Development.

Roy has a very busy job where “no two days are the same”. Here is what he gets up to:

• Solving Problems: He helps customers if they have any complaints or issues and works with his sales team to get new business.

• Going on Adventures: He doesn’t just sit in a chair all day! Sometimes he is in the office doing reports, but he also visits customers at their work or goes down to the docks to make sure everything is running smoothly.

• Talking to People: A big part of his job is having good “interpersonal skills,” which means he has to be good at getting along with people. He has to explain what the customers need to the workers at the port, and he has to tell the customers what the port can do for them.

Roy says he always wanted an office job when he was at school, but he also wanted the freedom to go out and about. To get this job, he went to university to get a business degree and started out working in the steel industry.

The best part of his job is the variety. One minute he could be at the docks at Teesport, and the next he could be travelling to Europe (like Rotterdam) for big events and meeting lots of new people.
