The South Tees Development Corporation is the largest brownfield development site in the UK. Formerly the site of the steel works, some of that operation still remains, along with the Bulk Terminal where ore used to arrive.
Most of the land though is completely empty. The new wood pellet MGT power station is currently being built and new announcements about a gas fired power station, a waste to energy plant and the world’s first Carbon Capture and Storage on industrial scale have recently been made. One stumbling block had been the continuing ownership of the Thai banks who had invested in the steel works. That land has now been completely bought back and the huge site is ready for new investment to begin.
With some of the most innovative industry already surrounding the site, direct access to the deepest port on the east coast, freight rail links throughout the UK and the newly developing international airport, the site is very attract to national and internationals businesses. Today’s intention is to make people more aware of what is to come in the context of a creative task.
