Today the Year 6 and Year 5 children from Junction Farm Primary School worked extremely hard during our ‘Renewable Energy in Action’ and ‘Aspirations’ sessions.

Throughout the morning the enthusiastic Year 6 children, from Eaglescliffe, learned about renewable energy and its essential role in Teesside. We looked more in-depth at the developments at Teesworks and how they could positively impact future career opportunities in their area. Over the rest of the morning, the children became ‘Energy Engineers’ and independently planned and built their working model of a wind farm choosing their locations wisely thinking of the financial and ethical implications. Next, we looked at the mechanics behind the technology fueling today’s automotive revolution while setting up their hydrogen-powered car!

The afternoon was just as action-packed working with the fantastic Year 5 children talking about their futures and aspirations. We used the app Keynote to think about career choices and reflect on the things they are passionate about by identifying their strengths before sharing their thoughts with others. We began to unpick some of the essential enterprise skills and attitudes that underpin many future opportunities. As usual, the rest of the session was couched within the context of life choices and the skills and attitudes that allow you to keep your options open throughout your life. More than that in fact, ways to enhance your opportunities in getting the things you want.

What a brilliant day with both the Year 5 and Year 6 classes in Junction Farm! It was clear from the get-go we have a highly motivated, extremely engaged group of children who certainly know how to make the most of opportunities that head their way!
